The most expensive parts of the boat were the three Westinghouse J-34 jet engines which cost him $260 total. He had a really low budget, which meant he could only buy wood and had three power tools a drill, circular saw, and belt sander. He studied engineering when he was growing up and used that knowledge to make his boat very aerodynamic. He designed the boat on his kitchen table and he built it in his backyard, so he could only work on sunny days. This boat was made by a man named Ken Warby.
